Group member Ruth Howell attended the Elgin Writers'
CSI weekend on 12-13th November. Writers came from
all over Scotland to hear talks from a CID officer,
a forensics expert, writer Frances Lloyd and the

visit to Elgin Courthouse (cells and all!).
Fortunately they were let out in time for the
keynote speaker - crime-writer Alex Grey, who
also judged the short story competition. Ruth was
delighted to come away with the First Prize for her
story 'Something Precious', featuring a dotty old
lady with a dark secret. Ruth says: "Elgin
Writers made us all very welcome and it was
fascinating to find out how crimes are investigated.
The weekend was great fun as well as being very
